How to play a flushdraw...

The guy in the hand below obviously knows how to play a spade draw....
Luckily his father is a millionaire and we should all be jealous about it, especially the people who need to work/grind for there money....

Running insane hot....

After my last post where I had one table where I got pretty cold decked, I had the exact opposite today. Was running insanely hot at one NL600 table. I build my stack up from $600 to around $4100 in just 95 hands. During this hands I made two suckouts when I won with AKs vs KK pre-flop all-in for 100BB and versus a complete donk (he played every single hand) where I rivered a boat versus his flush.
Ended the session up $4,5K which is my best session ever (2,5 hours).

One hand that I like to analyze is an AA hand versus a decent opponent.

EverestPoker Game #2128614755: Table Bamako-1 - $2.00/$4.00 - No Limit Hold'em - 09:02:44 - 2007/09/26

Seat 5: Disbon ($424.40)
Seat 6: BldZwtTrn ($445.90)

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to BldZwtTrn[Ah As]
Zaratoustr folds
Disbon calls $4.00
BldZwtTrn raises to $18.00
BigSpender80 folds
JopieMan calls $16.00
FuRinKaZan folds
Disbon calls $14.00

Pre-flop play is standard and I get two calls from tight players.

*** FLOP *** [Th 5c 6s]
JopieMan checks
Disbon checks
BldZwtTrn bets $43.00
JopieMan calls $43.00
Disbon folds

Again flop is standard and I get one call from a decent TAG out of the blinds.
The most likely holding I put him on is some mediocre hand like Tx/77/67.
The only draw hand he could have is 87, but I expect him to be more agressive with it most of the time, just like he would be with 66/55/65.

*** TURN *** [Th 5c 6s] [2s]
JopieMan checks
BldZwtTrn checks

Most players would probably fire again here. But after his check here I think that 66/55/65 are very unlikely, so I'm pretty sure he's having some mediocre one pair hand and decide to check behind, because the chance that he will call a river bet with his mediocre hand is probably bigger then a turn bet.

*** RIVER *** [Th 5c 6s 2s] [Js]
JopieMan bets $94.00
BldZwtTrn calls $94.00

This looked a lot like JT to me, but after checking the turn I have to call the river here, raising has no value at all.

*** SHOW DOWN ***
JopieMan shows [Td 9d]
BldZwtTrn shows [Ah As]

Turned out he had T9 and I was kind of suprised by his riverbet, I think it's a very strange bet. If it's a value bet, it's a very very thin one, cause he's only representing 87 and hoping for a call by 99/88/77. If it's a bluff, I don't get it either, cause what kind of better hands I'm a folding here (QT/KT maybe).

Bluffing in HU

As I told yesterdag bluffing is a lot more important in HU then in any other game. I even think that in FR it's possible to get away as a winning player without much bluffing at all (so called set-mining).
One example of a bluff in a HU game against a decent player is the following hand:

My hand is not important at all here, it's the board that counts here.
This flop is so dry that it's very difficult to hit something here.
The only hands that he could have hit hard here are 22/33 and that's about it. Sometimes maybe a very tricky AA. It's also very likely that 22/33 will slowplay the flop on this board, so then a CR here looks even more fishy, cause there are now draws.
So I think his most likely hand is something like(44-77/A3/A2/A4/54/air) or a Jx hand. But I doubt he will CR here with Jx.

So I decide to make a healthy re-raise and represent AJ or better. This way it's very hard for him to continue with any hand besides 22/33 offcourse and he folds.

Tough HU call against unknown

I'm playing more HU lately. I think it's very good training for a normal 6max game. It's very good for your bluffing skills and hand reading. In HU you can't get away with just waiting for boards that fits your cards. You have to make some big bluffs/call downs. I also like it as it's not so mechanical as 8-tabling the NL400 6 max game.
On to the hand I played today against a total unknown who bought in for full (doesn't happen a lot). This is probably the fourth hand at the table, so I have no reads at all.

Flop-a-set-ometer

Flop-a-set-ometer is a program to see how lucky your are with flopping sets and set vs set situations (www.pokerluckometer.com). I really like it and especially when running good/bad it really gives you a good impression of how good you run.
In september I'm running not so good, although I flopped more sets then expected.
But I'm runnig very unlucky in big pots. For example when flopping a set with AA or 88 (which happened 8 times for both) I actually LOST money with it.

I also got dealt aces 62 times this month (expected 82) and got into a overpair vs set situation 8 times versus 2 times set vs overpair.
Over to the hand of the day:

This AA situation is really a good example of when to fold aces.
Villian in this hand is pretty tight and not really agressive, at least nothing out of line. He runs about 21/12/2.

I'm not really sure if I like my check/call here. Taking shots at NL1000

As some of you might know I sometimes play NL1000 as well. On those levels table selection is even more important then at lower stakes and yesterday I found a very good table. But again things didn't go very well.

High stakes poker style

Hand of today is a hand from a live homegame I played yesterday.
We are playing 0,10/0,20 with 200BB buy-ins.
Just like in HSP we have a rule that if you win with 72o/72s you will get 2BB from every player.

So on to the hand.
It's 8-handed and I'm in MP with 72o (the ten of clubs is burned). 2 limpers in front of me and I make it 1,20 to go. I get 2 callers in the blinds and the limpers join the club. So 5-way to the flop.
Flop is TdTs6d and one guy from the blinds (40 behind) makes it 3 to go.
He plays quite agressive and is someone who bets/raises his draws.
2 limpers fold and I decide to call here, because raising here doesn't make much sense with a strong hand, so if I want to bluff, I'll have to do that on the turn like I would do with a strong hand.

Turn is another 6 and he now bets 7 into a pot of 12. He has about 30 behind after this bet and I cover. The hands I put him on are some PP (most likely 77-99)/diamond draw or maybe a 6. I think he never has a ten here. I also think he will fold everything besides the 6 offcourse, because by raising I'm basically saying that I have at least JJ, so after long consideration I say all-in.

No instacall by him so I'm probably good here. Turns out he had a flushdraw and because were playing deepstacked he didt get the odds to call here (only if he knew I had 72o offcourse), but he put me on KK/QQ.
So he makes the fold and I show 72o and feel like Phil Hellmuth bluffing Mike Matusow off KK for a second with the only difference that this was a $20 pot instead of $50K.

Staking, new site and bad week

Last week was not a great week for me, pokerwise and personally.
Those things happen and I'm happy that I still made a profit even though I didn't play my A game at all.

I also finished a staking deal with a pokerfriend of mine. I think this is something I might do more in the future. It turned out to be a positive thing for both of us.
He was able to play his normal NL100 game instead of grinding his way up and I made a nice profit on my stake investment.

Secondly I started playing at a new site as well. Got a very nice deal to play there.
By playing there I generate a nice income just by playing. This way I'm able to lower my variance in my income and also have a chance of choosing between different sites when playing. I think this is becoming, more and more important as a good game selection can have a huge (positive) effect on your winrate.

No hand of the day for today but hope to start with it again next week.
Thanks for reading.

Worst day ever...

Yesterday was my worst pokerday ever. I managed to loss about 9 buy-ins in 2K hands.
I was playing bad and running bad (most 'downswings' are a combination of that).
Seems like I made the wrong decision in every single big pot, could not win a single coinflip and got rivered a bazillion times.

The hand below shows what I mean, even though this guy was a complete (passive!!) donk I still should have folded the river, but this is what happens when you run bad and play bad.
