New PSP in half an hour.....

Every downswing is followed by an upswing.
Yesterday I again found out about that. As told in my previous post I had a terrible downswing (-$1500 on NL100 and NL200). So yesterday I decided to buy myself a nice gadget to remember why I'm playing poker and for my birtday (which is today). So I bought a white PSP.
So if anybody knows some nice games....please tell me.

After that I decided to play some poker for 2,5 hours (about 850 hands) and I won more then $1 per hand! I ended up winning $853 which is about 40 PTBB/100....
Offcourse this is not sustainable at all, but for the moment it was sweet!
So I'm back on track and I will at least get one of my goals (I'm 4,5 PTBB/100 @ NL200 over 15,000 hands).

I hate October

October so far has gone terrible for me (except for one amazing good session).
On Party I've lost over $1500 in the past 2 weeks. Especially on NL100 I'm losing.
At first I thought it was because of the US-fish that left, but the last few days I'm seeing the usual tables with at least 3 fishes on it. But for some reason I keep losing al the big pots against them.
Offcourse I'm not playing my best poker, but still nothing is more frustating then losing against terrible players.
I'm just gonna post some hands that frustated me the most (not all bad beats):

This first hand is against a very weak/passive player and there's nothing I can do here, just a cold deck...

I need help...

During a bad friday night session (lost $700) I suddenly had the feeling that my game was not improving anymore and that I was playing to predictable. A feeling a lot of people probably have during bad sessions, but this time I felt I had to do something about it.

So I decided to post a scream for help on my blog (as I'm doing now). I'm looking for some other players who are regularly playing at least NL100, but NL200/NL400 (6max)would be better, to review some sessions with. I always felt that that's the best way to improve your game, so I'm hoping someone can 'help' me out and likes to review some sessions and offcourse I'm willing to review yours as well if you want to.

I'm already trying to start it up with Koen (http://claudiusonline.blogspot.com/)
, but I'd like to find some more experienced player as well (people with over 100K hands).

Taking shots at NL400

Yestday after a long grinding session at NL100, where I fought my way back from -$500 to +$500 I decided to take a shot at NL400. And as always when moving up it is very hard to adjust to the new betting sizes.

For example, when you re-raise a limper and a raiser with AK, you make a bet of like $12 at NL100 or $25 at NL200, but yesterday I was playing at NL400 and there were 2 limpers and one raise to $24.....so I found AK in the SB and decided to make it $66 to make it look a little bit more scary. But the raiser called and the pot was like $140 to start with (oops). Compare this to $35 on NL100 and it looks a lot better.
Flop comes QJ4 (rainbow). Ok so I have a gutshot...and make a 'standard' c-bet of $100. He pushes all-in and I have to fold....nice lesson learned.
So my shot at NL400 ended in losing $400 in like 80 hands or so.

I'm now planning to take a real shot at NL400 when my bankroll is at $20,000. I will set a stop-loss at 5 buy-ins ($2000) and will play 2 tables of NL400 and 2 tables of NL200.

I'm also still playing on Party as I found out that there are still a lot of bad players at NL100 and NL200. I also don't like the overlap that I have when I 4-table at Full tilt. At Party its very easy to 6 table with the resizable screens.
But I'm planning on playing more at Full tilt (screen name: maurice1979) as I have a bonus outstanding and some rakeback which should compensate for the better(?) players and less tables I will be playing.

Amazing session thanks to huge donk

Today I had my best session ever. This time I catched a lot of cards and only got one bad beat where I lost with a set to someone who cathed trips on the turn and quads on the river with his jacks.
But the funniest thing was a huge donk on one of my tables. He was at the table for over 3 hours and lost well over $1000. At the end of that session when he left I had almost $1400 at that table.

Some fun hands for those who think NL200 is difficult (no comments needed):

Quick update - Party > Full tilt

I finished my reload bonus on Party which was a nice $200 for 2 sessions of play.
Since the US players left Party the level op play has increased a lot.
There a lot less fish and it's impossible to find tables without at least 2 other good players at NL200. SO I decided to try Full tilt as they have a nice reload bonus up to $500 (if you deposit $1000 via Neteller).
Another nice thing about Full tilt is that I have a rakeback account there on which I receive 27% of my rake back. And as I'm paying about 3 to 4K rake a month this could be a nice extra $1000 a month.

Lost $800 in 2 days....

The last two days have been terrible. Wednesday I was just totally card dead and hit nothing at all and I was down $350. Yesterday it was even worse and I dropped another $450. But this time I got some cards, but players (read: donks) sucked out on me like everytime. The times I got AA, I lost to a set (2 times), which offcourse is bad play by me or it was folded around.

Some stats for october

After I made a new database in pokertracker I can finally show some october results.
First of all, they are terrible. After I good start I'm totally card dead. I'm losing on half of my pocket pairs (normally I make profit on all of them). I'm even losing money with KK. So I have good hope for the rest of october.

Hand played in October: 14,004
NL 100: 7,373 -/- $232,18 (-/- 1,57 PTBB/100)
NL 200: 6,631 + $1,070,43 (+ 4,05 PTBB/100)
Total: + $848,25

Pokertracker

As mentioned in one of my earlier posts I have problems with Pokertracker at the moment. When it starts importing hands it gives an error message within 5 minutes. I contacted them and they told me that probably my access database is full.

As a solution I can start a new database or convert my database to some sort of SQL format in which the size of the database has no maximum (in access there is a maximum). I've never hear of this problem from anyone yet so I'm really suprised that it happened to me. I probably have around 250,000 hands in my database which is that much I thought....If anyone knows how to solve this problem the best, I would be very happy.

So the last days I played some 4-tabling sessions, but without pokertracker it is so much more difficult for me. I know realize that my play was based a lot on pokertracker stats. By not having the stats abailable I feel that I made some laydowns/big calls that I would not have made with the stats available.
Offcourse I try to get reads and make notes, but those stats are so much more valuable to me.

So for those who don't use it yet.....BUY IT!!

I hate losing big pots to donks

Yesterday I played a nice session again. At the end I was up about $400 and then this hand came up....
Some background first. The player in the small blind is some 40 VPIP donk who thinks he invented this game. I keep stealing the blinds from the button when its folded to me and he doesn't like that at all as he told me twice before in the chat.
Some hands ago I raised it with 86s and he raises to about $23 and I (offcourse) fold. He shows 87o and keep telling me to stop stealing his blinds.
After that he keeps calling me very light in the blinds with hands like Q9s and T6s.
Then this hand happens (note that we are 3 buy-ins deep):

PayStation4 bets [$100]. >> standard almost potsized bet
dfwbmf is all-In [$482.61] >> after thinking for a while he pushes all-in
PayStation4 is all-In [$133.65] >> I quickly call
** Dealing Turn ** [ Ad ]
** Dealing River ** [ Kc ]
PayStation4 shows [ Jd, Js ] a pair of jacks.
dfwbmf shows [ Qh, As ] a pair of aces >> well played!!
The time at which hand ended:Oct 06 2006 19:02 ET
dfwbmf wins $248.96 from side pot #1 with a pair of aces.
dfwbmf wins $597.80 from the main pot with a pair of aces.

After this hand the guy offcourse starts telling me how I overplayed my jacks and that he had me dominated on the flop.
And offcourse against a normal player I would NEVER do this, but against him without thinking for a second.

After all he was the guy who played his hand really horrible. Calling such a big raise pre-flop out of position with AQ is just the worst thing that u could do. And pushing that flop was even worser as my range was about JJ+ AK and he almost had no fold equity there. JJ was about the best he could hope for, giving him a 25% change of winning the pot. Well done sir!

Biggest profitmaker(s) - Strategy

Today I want to tell something about what I think is one of my biggest contributions to my winrate. First of all, table selection. As told before Sixth Sense is a great tool for this. Sometimes I see tables were there are 4 good (20/13/3) players battling with each other. This offcourse is not gonne make you any profit in the long run.

I always look for tables with some high VPIP players with some big stacks and offcours not too many good players. Most of the time it is pretty easy to find 6 of them at Party. When the fish is broke or goes away and I'm left with just tight players, I leave and find a better table. At this low stakes there is just so much fish that it is just stupid to playagainst only TAG's...

The second thing that is very important and which is sometimes a bit more difficult is changeyour play when facing different opponents.Generally I think you can divide palyers in the following groups:

Good TAG players / Bad Loose player
Bigstacks / Shortstacks
Agressive / Passive
Calling stations / 'Bluffable' players

My playing style against all those different players is totally different. For example the Continuation bet, I probably am C-betting a lot more against TAG's,Bigstacks, Passive players and bluffable players then I will do this against the other half.

A second example may be when I hold AK on a K97 board and my flop bet gets raised. Against a Bad/loose player or shortstack I will probably put all my money in, but against a TAG or a passive player I might even fold here if I think I'm up against a set for example.

Another example is playing draws against these different players. I might raise a nut flushdraw against TAG's/ big stacks/ passive and bluffable players, but against the other half you have to be careful with that because you have a lot less Folding equity and that's whatis it all about when raising draws.

These are just a few examples of my different styles against different players. Maybe later I can explain this with some HH's as well.

New month, new goals

Since the last update I haven't been playing much. I was happy to have reached my bankroll goal and decided to take break for a few days. I played a lot the last month (40,000 hands) and this month I will probably play not that much. My winrate over september was far from good ( about 1,5 PTBB/100).

So for October I hope to play less hands, but make more profit ;-)
I need to get my winrate up (especially on NL200) before I want to move up to NL400.
I know I have the bankroll to play NL400, but I think it is more important that you're able to crush the level below for at least 4 ptbb/100 and this is not yet the case for NL200.

Goals October:

Play 30,000 hands of which at least 20,000 at NL200
Winrate for NL200 @ 4 PTBB/100
Bankroll end October $19,000
Post more hands on blog!

Hands played in october ~ 2,500
Won in cash games ~$550
BR beginning of september: $15,040
Current BR : ~$15,590
